    Region Fact File
Uluru

Major Airports: Alice Springs, Ayers Rock

Transport: The best way to travel around this vast region is by car. Regular coach services link major towns.

Acknowledged as one of Australia's most amazing travel experiences, the Adelaide to Darwin Ghan train service is an epic 2,979-kilometre journey. The Northern Territory portion of the trip, from Alice Springs to Darwin, allows travellers to embark and disembark at Katherine or Darwin, and passengers can also take their own vehicles on the train. For those wishing to visit Uluru (Ayers Rock) from Alice Springs, it is important to note that it is not as close as some think - it is a solid 5.5 hour drive.

When To Go: Central Australia is warm with clear blue skies year round. Summer temperatures range from 20°C to 40+°C while winter temperatures experience cool nights and warm days (-5°C to 28°C). Rainfall is light with November to April averaging 20mm per month, and May to October averaging 40mm per month.
