Transport: The most direct approach to the Blue Mountains is via the M4 motorway, leading from Sydney to the foot of the Mountains at Lapstone; or use the Bells line of Road via Windsor and Richmond as an alternate route. From the West you can approach via Lithgow and Hartley Vale. Trains leave Sydney's Central Station hourly departing from Countrylink platforms. A number of coach companies offer day trips to the Blue Mountains departing from Circular Quay in Sydney.
When To Go: The climate of the Blue Mountains is more temperate than the lower Sydney region. During the winter months (June, July August), the average temperature in the Upper Mountains is around 5°C while in Summer (December, January February), the average temperature is around 18°C. The Blue Mountains has a similar rainfall to Sydney, with January to March averaging 170mm per month (or 12 raining days) and May to September averaging 80mm per month (9 rainy days).
